Are you a creative and visionary communications professional looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join this new independent, national civil rights organisation created to dismantle systemic racism in Britain as the Head of Communications and External Affairs.  You will lead the development and implementation of the communications and external affairs strategy. In this pivotal role, you will have the chance to shape the organisation’s brand, increase support, and drive participation in its mission.

During its initial phase, the organisation has successfully established a robust brand and fostered engagement with its community, businesses, and partners. As it transitions into the next phase of growth, the organisation seeks a Head of Communications and External Affairs who can assist in refining its strategy for evolution. The organisation also values someone who is willing to be hands-on, stepping in to create newsletters or other materials as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a communications and external affairs strategy to raise the organisation’s profile and influence participation in its mission.
  • Craft and disseminate a range of communications, from press releases to policy consultations, reports to newsletters, engaging with journalists and political stakeholders.
  • Manage the day-to-day running of the Communications Team, coordinating workload and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Enhance the organisation’s visibility and influence, proactively managing stakeholder engagement to position it as a leader in addressing structural racism.
  • Constantly reprioritise workload in line with the demands of the mission.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in communications and external affairs roles, with a focus on developing and implementing strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to craft, write, and disseminate various types of communications.
  • Experience working with journalists and political stakeholders.
  • Organised individual with the ability to reprioritize workload in alignment with organizational goals.
